PlanetAI: Quantum Innovation for Resilient Systems
PlanetAI is a pioneering platform that leverages artificial intelligence and quantum-inspired computing to enhance climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and data governance across natural and territorial systems.
Like other UpLink innovators showcased in the Quantum for Society initiative, PlanetAI demonstrates how deep tech can reinforce critical systems while advancing global sustainability goals.
This Barcelona NGO Is the Worst Enemy of Greenwashing
PlanetAI Nature Space (PNS), based in Barcelona, is presented as a technological and ethical counterweight to corporate greenwashing.
Founded by María Fernanda González, Iván Vilar, and Santiago Vargas, the group combines advanced satellite imaging, AI, and scientific certification to monitor forests and generate verified carbon credits.
Key points:
Amazon project: PNS manages 3.5 million hectares in the Colombian Amazon, generating more than 130 million tons of carbon credits in three years. Each credit represents one ton of CO₂ avoided or absorbed.
Indigenous role: The NGO emphasizes that Indigenous peoples safeguard 80% of the world’s forests. PNS integrates their ancestral knowledge with AI, teaching communities to monitor and manage territories while respecting governance and culture.
Business model: Carbon credits are monetized internationally — from $5–6 per credit in Colombia to $50–100 in Europe/US for complex cases such as methane. PNS charges a small percentage per credit issued.
Methodologies: PNS has developed four certification methodologies: forest carbon, blue carbon (mangroves), sustainable palm oil cultivation, and methane capture from abandoned oil wells (seen as a major future solution).
Traceability & AI: The company built its own certification method backed by scientists, using satellite imagery and AI algorithms to ensure transparency and detect fraud in voluntary carbon markets.
Beyond carbon: González stresses that projects must address broader challenges — youth losing Indigenous languages and traditions, waste management, and cultural survival — arguing that “if you destroy Indigenous peoples, you destroy the Earth.
PNS shows that technology, science, and Indigenous governance can combine to deliver genuine climate solutions with transparency and cultural integrity, making it a true “enemy” of greenwashing narratives.
Flor de Inírida project certified according to PNS standard, rules and procedures and registered on the Karbonoa high-tech platform
This AFOLU REDD+ conservation project, of the AUDD (Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation and Degradation) type, has been developed and implemented by Greenlife Conservation Impact+, formerly Compensation International Progress S.A.-Greenlife-, and the indigenous peoples who own the collective territory in the Amazon, in the department of Guainía, Republic of Colombia. The project covers a total of 8.42 million acres (3,408,186.15 hectares), an area that includes 1.81 million hectares of project area and 1.59 million hectares of leakage area. It is being implemented in pristine forests within the collective territories of 11 indigenous reserves, representing a high percentage of the predominant Curripaco, Puinave and Piapoco ethnic groups. Certification according to PNS (PlanetAI Nature Space) standards, rules and procedures ensures that the project meets rigorous environmental, social, technical and cultural criteria, while the Karbonoa registry guarantees traceability, transparency and public accountability through blockchain technology. This achievement highlights the role of indigenous leadership, culture, tradition and worldview in large-scale conservation and technology-driven community monitoring, delivering nature-based climate solutions of high integrity, traceability and quality from Colombia to the world.

PlanetAI: Leveraging Existing Satellite Infrastructure to Detect Methane Leaks
While companies like Amazon spend over $100 million and years to launch methane-tracking satellites, PlanetAI delivers immediate results by using existing multispectral satellite data (e.g. Sentinel, Landsat, Planet). No new satellites needed — PlanetAI analyzes archived and real-time imagery to: Detect and quantify methane leaks ; Provide global, continuous coverage ; Reduce costs and time-to-impact ; Enable retrospective analysis with AI-enhanced accuracy.
Instead of building new hardware, PlanetAI maximizes what’s already in orbit—offering a faster, smarter, and more scalable solution for climate resilience and carbon markets.
